Pen Drive Linux - USB PC Linux OS MiniMe

PCLinuxOS is a beautiful Live Linux CD compilation created by Texstar of pclinuxos.com and is based on Mandriva Linux.

Live Linux CDs allow people to test Linux or try a distribution without any hard drive installation, or carry Linux around in their pocket to use on any computer

USB drive bootable via Windows XP & also work on Windows 2000 system with SP4 including Vista RC1.

Texstar has done a simple remaster of PCLinuxOS MiniMe made specifically for USB flash memory sticks. Also included in the remastered zip is a custom one button syslinux installer that allows you to make the USB drive bootable via Windows XP through a simple one button menu.

Basic essentials:
● A 512MB or larger USB flash drive
● HP-USB Format tool
● PCLinuxOS Minime ISO
● fixmm.zip

Here is the tutorial:

1. Download the HP-USB Format tool and format your flash drive using the Fat
or Fat32 option
2. Download the PCLinuxOS MiniMe ISO
3. Create a new folder on your computer
4. Download fixmm.zip and extract the files to the new folder
5. Run fixmm.bat from new folder and follow the on screen instructions
6. Copy all files from the minime folder to your USB flash memory stick
7. Run makeboot.bat from your USB stick to make it bootable
8. Reboot your computer and set your system BIOS to boot from USB-HDD or USB-ZIP. Also set the boot priority if necessary.
Notes: You can log into PCLinuxOS using the username: root and password: root
or guest and guest

Warning: DO NOT RUN makeboot.exe from your local hard drive!! It is intended to be run from your USB device.

(You must have the .Net framework from Microsoft in your hard drive in order to run the makeboot.exe)

Please note: This tutorial has been tested to work from a Windows XP computer with .Net framework and service pack updates. Other operating environments may or may not support the use of the installer. The .Net framework is required in order to run the Makeboot.exe application.
