Since CDBurnerXP 4, we use the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (or any higher version) as basis for our application.

If you are running Windows Vista, you already have .NET 3.0 preinstalled so there is nothing to care about. Any earlier operating system, however, requires that you install it manually.

Recommended additional programs:

Convert file to MPEG-2 to create a VCD
The help topic Create Video-DVD for CDBUrnerXPPro 3.0.116 says to get the TMPGenc v12a zip file in order to convert a file to MPEG-2.

Create Video-DVD
  • Divide your video into different parts (chapters)
  • Conversion to MPEG-2
  • Create Menu and DVD image
  • Burn DVD
  • Create Video-DVD without menu

Divide your video into different parts (chapters)

You can split your video file into different parts, for example to create chapters. I suggest you follow a tutorial how to do that, since I can't explain everything here. You can download VirtualDub from our servers (version 1.5.10).

Conversion to MPEG-2

To convert a file to MPEG-2, we should use latest version of TMPGenc, but this is only free for 30-days. So we go back to an older version, TMPGenc v12a (no installation required). By the way, if you like that program and you find it useful, we encourage you to buy the latest Plus version. After extraction of the files, open the file "Patch.exe" and click start to translate TMPGenc into English. Then open "TMPGEnc.exe" to start the program. Now click "Browse", and select the video you want to convert to MPEG-2. Usually this is an avi-file containing both video and audio information, but you can also use a different audio and video source. Now you have to configure TMPGenc. This is not very difficult, since I added two presets to the ZIP file. To configure TMPGenc, click "Load". If you are not in template folder already, browse there. Then open the file "DVD-PAL-Custom.mcf" if you need a PAL format video and "DVD-NTSC-Custom.mcf" if you need an NTSC video. You will need PAL in Europe and NTSC in USA (if you don't know what to use). Now click the "encode" button. The encoding process may take a while so be patient - or better get a good occuptaion

Create Menu and DVD image

Related Topic
At first we need the next freeware tool, DVDStyler. This time you have to install the program.
After finishing install and starting the program, go to "Configuration" " src="/images/onestep.gif" height="10" width="10"> "Settings". Here you can choose another language and change the default menu format to NTSC if there is any need to do that.
Now we add a background. There are some predefined background images which you can add by doubleclick on one of the images on the left. You can also use the "Directories"-Tab to use your own image.
Done that, you can add additional images by dragging them onto the menu layout. Resizing is also possible. Before we are adding buttons, we have to add our converted video file(s). Switch to directories if you haven't done that already and drag the MPEG files you need to the bottom. Now go to "Buttons"-Tab and drag a button of your choice (at the moment I write this tutorial there is only one so forget your choice) to the layout. Rightclick on it to change its properties.
After everything is done, choose "File" " src="/images/onestep.gif" height="10" width="10"> "Burn DVD". Specify output directory and activate "create ISO image". Then press "Start".

UDF file system should be used to correctly burn the discs for DVD players. UDF Tools version 1.0.0 Published by Tyler Akidau is for reading and creating UDF volumes. The following tools are included:
  • udf -- Read-only UDF filesystem add-on
  • makeudfimage -- Command-line program for creating UDF volumes that may be burned to a CD or DVD
  • i-udf-ds -- UDF DriveSetup add-on
Here's what you can do with the tools in this version:
  • Mount and read from most commercial DVDs and most custom burned, single- and multi-session UDF DVDs and CDs.
  • Create UDF 2.01 and 1.50 images that can be burned to a CD or DVD with an application such as CD Manager.
Here's what doesn't work:
  • UDF discs created with packet writing software like DirectCD will likely not mount properly (though note that discs made with Nero InCD have been reported to work). Proper support is planned, but not considered to be a high priority due to general lack of expressed interest.
  • makeudfimage does not yet support the following filesystem features: attributes, symlinks, boot images, indices, UDF/iso9660 hybrids, multi-session images. Support is planned in roughly the order listed.
For those who are now confused, UDF is the filesystem generally used on DVDs. It may be used on CDs as well. Installing the filesystem add-on will allow you to access UDF-only discs, as well as access iso9660/UDF hybrid discs using UDF, which provides better long filename and extended character set support.

Other than providing better filename support, not much is currently gained by using UDF over iso9660 when accessing hybrid discs. However, future versions will include support for BeOS attributes and indices, as well as a tool to create the appropriate UDF images. I encourage you to wait with bated breath.

For those so inclined, source is currently only available via the Haiku SVN Repository:
Visit the main Haiku Web Site for info on anonymous SVN access.

Visit www.osta.org for more general UDF info.
Mount ISO image description
Mount ISO Image is an advanced script which allows to perform multiple operations with ISO, NRG (Nero Burning ROM), UDF (DVD), CUE/BIN, CCD/IMG/SUB (CloneCD), XDVDFS (XBOX) images.

Mount/unmount operations can be performed in two different ways: using kdesu or sudo. During the installation you'll be offered to choose a variant to use.

Note: If you prefer to use sudo, you should first choose to "Setup sudo config" in installation menu.

Usage:

ISO9660 (CD) and UDF (DVD) images

Mount:

Right-click an ".ISO" file and choose "Actions -> Manage ISO -> Mount Image". Image file will be mounted to folder on Desktop, the corresponding folder will be opened and raised.

Unmount:

Right-click an ".ISO" file and choose "Actions -> Manage ISO -> Unmount Image". The corresponding folder will be removed from the desktop automagically.

Calculate MD5 sum:

Right-click an ".ISO" file, choose "Actions -> Manage ISO -> Calculate MD5 sum" and wait for completion - it may take several minutes for a standard 650 Mb image on a slow machine.

Create ISO/UDF image from directory:

Right-click a folder that you wish an ISO or UDF image to be created from and choose "Actions -> Manage ISO -> Create ISO (or UDF) image". Image will be created either in parent directory of this folder (if user is allowed to write there) or on the Desktop.
Warning: Check if you have enough free space on target partition before creating an ISO!

Create ISO/UDF image from CD/DVD drive:

Right-click any suitable directory (resulting file will be stored there), select "Actions -> Manage ISO -> Create ISO-image from CD-ROM" and select the name of ISO image in the filename selection dialog. If it suggests you put the resulting image on the Desktop instead of the selected directory, it means that current user has no permission to write in this directory.
Note: This feature requires a working CD/DVD drive
Warning: Check if you have enough free space on target partition before creating an ISO

Create Video-DVD without menu
If you have a correct encoded video, you can simply create a Data-DVD and add the folders "audio_ts" and "video_ts". Put your video(s) into "video_ts" and burn the disc.
Rightclick on the root folder and choose "Create Directory" to create a new directory.

Burn DVD

Now, finally, we come to CDBurnerXP Pro. To burn this ISO image choose "Data/DVD" at startup of CDBurnerXP Pro. To reopen the dialog, click the new-button(Page Icon) in toolbar. Then go to File (in menu) " src="/images/onestep.gif" height="10" width="10"> Write disc from ISO file.

Then choose ISO file we just created by clicking on the "..."-button and then click "Write disc" to start burning process.
You won't need Mode1XA or Mode2XA. Finalizing disc won't hurt, but usually there is no need to do that.

2) All Video Splitter

3) All Video Joiner

N.B. Altering the width & height of a cinema scope video file to 680 X 480 (Full TV screen):
Pegasys TMPGEnc Xpress v4.3.1.222 editing by cutting couldn't produce it though it do a good job in joining the clips as one. All Video Splitter does the job fine. If you want the whole video to be converted to 690 X 480, just do this:
a) Select Output File format to be MPEG type(
convert that into MPEG-1 for VCD and MPEG-2 for SVCD or DVD)
b) Enter Width/ Height as 640/480
c) Check Split the source file manually
d) Click mark start point ( 4th icon left from the scissor Split icon ) as 00.00.00.0
Click mark end point
( 3th icon left from the scissor Split icon )as slider to the end right.
e) Click Split

Burning Video CD's & Video DVD's
With the MPEG of PC format output conversion from all video, continue to transcode to MPEG of CD format with
TMPGEnc Xpress or TMPGEncPlus2.5.
Use CDBurnerXP Pro or alternatively Nero which also converts on the fly. In Nero video creating option, I find that using TMPG Enc to transcode first before using Nero produce better result.
