PDF - Portable Document Format

PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format that has captured all the elements of a printed document as an electronic image that you can view, navigate, print, or forward to someone else. PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, or similar products. It is is the de facto standard for the secure and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms around the world, with a ten-year track record. PDF is a universal file format that preserves the fonts, images, graphics, and layout of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Adobe¨ PDF files are compact and complete, and can be shared, viewed, and printed by anyone with PDF reader. Readers for many platforms are available, such as Adobe Reader, Foxit, Preview, Xpdf, Evince, Okular, and KPDF; there are also front-ends for many platforms to Ghostscript. PDF readers are generally free. There are many software options for creating PDFs, including the PDF printing capability built in to Mac OS X, the multi-platform OpenOffice.org, Microsoft Office 2007 (an additional free download from Microsoft is required), Wordperfect since version 9, numerous PDF print drivers for Microsoft Windows, and Adobe Acrobat itself. There is also specialized software for editing PDF files.

Note: Create a tagged PDF from a web page
A PDF that you create from a web page is only as accessible as the HTML source that it is based on.
To produce the most accessible PDFs from web pages you create, first establish a logical reading order in their HTML code.

Choose File > Create PDF > From Web Page.
For URL, type the address of the web page, or navigate to the web page location.
Click Settings.
In the General tab, select Create PDF Tags, and then click OK.
Select any other options as appropriate, and then click Create.
