7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. Compression ratio results are very dependent upon the data used for the tests. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs. 7-Zip is open source software.

N.B. Compression relies on redundancy (ie, duplicate data). (Redundant data may not mean useless data, for example, here 'e' is redundant as its repeated lots of times, but it doesn't mean 'e' is useless) More the redundancy higher the compression. there's always a limit as to how much redundant data is there, and data can't be compressed beyond that.
Most game files etc are already compressed, so even if you compress it again, it wont get compressed my much.
